Horse meets Home

by Anna on August 24, 2012

I introduce to you: A concept board for the project of my newest client. A friend of mine just purchased a condo in Del Mar and I just had to get a start on bringing together some ideas. I’m loving the fact that she wants to incorporate some quirky horse paraphernalia into the living area- its really going to add some personality and fun! I’d like to mix some modern pieces with rustic equestrian pieces and tie it all together using sleek blue and rusty orange. I think we will definitely have a good time pulling off this look while also working within a budget. Here is my take on the MODERN EQUESTRIAN LOOK……

Baby room to the MAX!

by Anna on April 12, 2012

Max’s bedroom is finally finished! He hasn’t arrived yet (today is April 11, his due date was April 8th) but he will soon. His bedroom awaits his arrival… as does as his mama and papa.

To be quite honest there wasn’t much planning that went into the room. I wanted to use what we had available and spend as little as possible. I just couldn’t justify spending a bundle on a room that I know is going to be changed in a few years anyway. I must say that I do feel that I got pretty lucky with the things that we already had and how well everything fused together. I think the best way to make this type of design work is to not be tied or limited to color. I chose to keep white as the base on the walls and use a dominance of blues and greens with pops of bright colors. I already had the beech color bookcase from Ikea which is what prompted my decision to choosing  the beech color crib and changing table, this would make for a more cohesive look.

I used my own tall blue dresser that was stained by my mother and used in my younger brother’s room when we grew up. My amazing friends bought us the beech crib from Ikea and Matt and I purchased the matching diaper changer from Ikea to match. We found the baby mobile laying next to the trash bin of our apartment. So I washed it up, put in new batteries, and “Voila!” good as new. We even found a stack of children’s books a few weeks later near the trash bin which we claimed and are now being housed in the bookcase. Talk about lucky!

The armchair was my own and is upholstered in an unattractive brown fabric so I took one of my old white duvet covers and wrapped it around the cushions. Easy DIY change! We decided that because we will be having so many guests in the next few months stay with us to visit and meet little Max, we should purchase a fold up sofa bed. This we also bought from Ikea… You just can’t beat their prices!

Accessories and decorative items: Most of the stuffed animals were presents from friends and family, the play rug is from Ikea, the sock monkey bunting purchased through Etsy.com was re-used from the baby shower, the bed linens are Ikea, the knit throw was a gift from family friends, the knick-knacks we already had, the MAX letters were purchased at the Pasadena flea market, the sofa pillows were hand sewn by myself, and the wall art was fabric that I purchased on Etsy.com and wrapped around wood stretchers.

This room is full of love and I can’t help but just sit in it and imagine holding our little one in my arms. I hope you enjoy our little Max’s room as much as I do!

UpCycled and Fabulous.

by Anna on May 24, 2011

I am always so impressed with all the talent found on the website esty.com Check out this shop called Mudpuppy that features alien-like plants that actually grow upside-down. Amazing!

Re-Purposed Tupperware? How cool! These would definitely make a whimsical statement in a kitchen or even hanging above tables in a fun little restaraunt. Check out GusNboots shop.

Lastly, take a look at this assortment of Upcycled wall decor.

Top left is a picture frame made out of Upcycled magazine pages by ColorStoryDesigns.  Top right picture is an upcycled frame turned into an erasable drawing board by REEDLOVE. Bottom left is artwork that is made from reused book pages by PRRINT. Bootom right is a set of hooks made from old spoons…Isn’t that great!?… by jjevensen.
