ROOM INTERPRETATION: Gold Glam

by Anna on October 5, 2012

As the cooler temperatures fall upon us my mind is naturally yearning for warm, soft, cozy interiors. A pairing of gold and plum is always a favorite fall combination as it brings warmth and softness to a room while also creating a very glamorous feel. Below is my Room Interpretation of a beautiful interior featured in Elle Decor. Grab a hot cup of tea and enjoy!

Horse meets Home

by Anna on August 24, 2012

I introduce to you: A concept board for the project of my newest client. A friend of mine just purchased a condo in Del Mar and I just had to get a start on bringing together some ideas. I’m loving the fact that she wants to incorporate some quirky horse paraphernalia into the living area- its really going to add some personality and fun! I’d like to mix some modern pieces with rustic equestrian pieces and tie it all together using sleek blue and rusty orange. I think we will definitely have a good time pulling off this look while also working within a budget. Here is my take on the MODERN EQUESTRIAN LOOK……

Room Interpretation

by Anna on July 21, 2012

I’ve decided to dedicate a monthly post called “Room Interpretations.” I will share photos of beautiful interiors and then post a collage of items that a person could use to replicate that given room. I will try to focus on creating the room with reasonably priced items so that it makes it easy and affordable for you to actually recreate these rooms. Enjoy!

Red hot Pink passion

by Anna on February 11, 2012

Happy Saint Valentine’s! Fly Design Studio is sharing some love :)

Have you ever realized how much we are physically and emotinally effected by color? It always amazes me! I was reminded of this yesterday while browsing the aisles of Target. Target is always top of their game when it comes to changing their inventory to reflect the seasons current holiday. February, of course, being the season of love. As I walked down the aisles I could feel myself becoming more and more excited and actually felt happier. I even sensed a stronger desire to buy/consume (as if it isn’t difficult enough for me to go into Target without purchasing $100 worth of STUFF!). How amazing is that?! A simple thing as color has such a significant effect on the human psyche. Keep reading below to find out more interesting info on how the colors of Valentine’s day (red and pink) effect us.

RED Physiological Effect: Red has been shown to increase blood pressure and stimulate the adrenal glands. The stimulation of the adrenals glands helps us become strong and increases our stamina. Its effect is physical; it stimulates us and raises the pulse rate, giving the impression that time is passing faster than it is. It relates to the masculine principle and can activate the “fight or flight” instinct. Red is strong, and very basic. Pure red is the simplest colour, with no subtlety. It is stimulating and lively, very friendly. At the same time, it can be perceived as demanding and aggressive.

Attributes: Courage, love, passion, strength, warmth, heat, energy, basic survival, ‘fight or flight’, stimulation, masculinity, excitement, defiance, aggression, visual impact, strain, appetite, seriousness, dignity, power.

PINK Physiological Effect: Pink, a lighter shade of red, helps muscles relax. Pink soothes, rather than stimulates. Pink can also become irritating and demasculating if there is too great exsposure.

Atributes: Tranquillity, nurture, warmth, femininity, love, sexuality, survival of the species, unselfish love, romance, weakness, vulnerability, inhibition, calmness, protection, sweetness, gentleness, softness.

Now, take in some of this eye candy and let your emotions take you on a journey. Enjoy!

Wee rooms for Wee-ones!

by Anna on January 11, 2012

Baby is on the brain! Here are some Wee-one rooms that have me inspired. Unlike the typical girly pink and powder blue rooms, these rooms have character and STYLE. I’m especially loving the bright white and natural vibe of some of these rooms. Almost all of these looks can easily be acheived on a budget….think Ikea, second hand shops, and DIY projects. You really don’t have to spend thousands on baby furniture to create a happy, comfortable, loving environment for your little one. Simplicity and creativity go a long way!

(Stay tuned for March/April when you will find out how Maxime’s room turned out!)

Which room is your favorite?

Old Old is the New New!

by Anna on January 1, 2012

Eco friendly design/ environmentally conscious design is fortunately still growing in popularity. One trend that I hope will never phase out! Take a look at this furniture store on La Brea ave in LA called Cisco Brothers. They use organic materials and sell refurbished pieces. Very Anthropology-esque. Check out a few of my fav pieces in the showroom:

Craving Color.

by Anna on November 19, 2011

Cooler seasons brings cooler colors. The sky shows grey, tree’s leaves have fallen away to expose bare branches, grass and greenery become dry and brown,  ice and snow will soon cover land in white, and bodies of water darken reflecting the sky’s gloom.

Although I live in California and don’t see much of a seasonal change there is definitely a nip in the air and a change in nature’s colors.  Trending colors will change to browns, purples, rich reds, and oranges as they normally do. Of course I also love the colors of fall but I must say… I’m not yet ready to embrace the cool seasons. I’m still lusting over the bright rich colors of summer. So, this post is a last farewell to the uplifting saturated brights of the summer past. A last “Ode to summer,”  if you will. Please enjoy.

Bright Ideas.

October 17, 2011

Lighting tricks: If you prefer a home with a neutral palette or monochromatic color scheme a great way to add life and character is to pick out unique lighting solutions. When picking out lighting fixtures think of them as art pieces. Color, shape, and size are all very important factors when incorporating unique lighting into your home. […]

got ikat?

July 28, 2011

I’ve always been a lover of hippie looking things. It just runs in my blood. I always remember my mama wearing the most casual chic outfits (and I really don’t think she tried- she was just a natural fashionista). Flowing cotton dresses, worn leather jackets with fringe falling from the arms, moccasins, beaded turquoise jewelry, vintage tees, hand woven […]
